What is Insolvency?
The Insolvency Act 1986 is a complex act, but to put it simply, if you are struggling to pay your suppliers and other creditors on time, then your business could be facing insolvency. A company which is insolvent may be put into liquidation, which is sometimes referred to as 'winding-up'.
How common is Insolvency?
According to UK Department for Business, Innovation and Skills | BIS, there were 4,242 compulsory liquidations and creditors’ voluntary liquidations in total in England and Wales in the third quarter of 2011. This was an increase of 6.5% on the same period a year ago and was made up of 1,203 compulsory liquidations and 3,039 creditors’ voluntary liquidations. Full information at Insolvency Direct.
